Oh Hey, Friday!

5 Things I Loved About This Week!

1. Not Being Pasty White
I am a very pale person, always have been. But I just returned from a week-long beach vacation and I am TAN! It is wonderful and may never happen again!

2. Classroom Crafting
Sadly I cannot get into my classroom yet because of cleaning and waxing the floors. So I have been doing a ton of work at home. It's so fun to imagine when I can finally get in and get everything ready for my students!

3. Pooch Time
I am admittedly one of those people obsessed with my dog. (The Hubs is too, just minus the admittedly part) Since I don't work in the Summer I love all the time I get to spend at home with Kira! She's just so precious and cuddly!

4. BYOD Party
My two best girlfriends came over and brought their dogs and we have a Bring Your Own Dog Party! Is there any better kind of party???

5. Reading
Having so much more time to read lately and this book is so good! Highly recommend any book by Tamera Alexander!

BONUS!
I am meeting my brother (who lives in Texas) and my sister for breakfast this morning as he passes through for a work trip! Going to be so much fun!

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” ― Stephen King

Sunday afternoon The Hubs and I went to see Catching Fire, the new Hunger Games movie. It was awesome, even better than the first! But boy did it leave you on a major cliff hanger! I read the first Hunger Games Book before I saw the movie but never got around to reading the next two. So after the movie left me wondering "what the heck was going to happen next" I rushed to buy the final book!

I have always loved to read and I usually always am reading a book. I read about thirty minutes before bed each night. But since I started teaching I have been in a major reading slump. Sunday night I lit some Fall candles, turned on a fake fire on t.v., and got snuggled up on the couch with two cats and Mockingjay, the final book in the series.

It. Was. Glorious. I read for an hour and a half, am loving the book and was once again bit by the reading bug! If you are looking for a good book to read I recommend The Hunger Games series and any of the books below! Click HERE to go to my goodreads page!

Rekindled

I love to read, but because if school I don’t get many chances to read for pleasure. So when Summer rolls around I go a little crazy in the reading department.

I also love when bloggers review books (I even follow a blog I am not crazy about but she does book reviews often so I keep checking back!). I have found many a great read through recommendations. I figured I can’t be the only one out there who loves learning about great books, so I am gonna let you all know when I read a great book!

Enjoy!

Finished reading this book a couple weeks ago and it is to date one of my fasted read books. I started this on a Wednesday afternoon and had it finished by Thursday evening! So. Good.

I am no good at writing synopsis’ so I am going to let the author’s website do it for me :)

"Ten years ago Kathryn Jennings made a vow. For better or worse. And that promise still holds true, even though her marriage has not turned out as she expected. When her husband fails to return home one stormy winter night, she struggles to keep their ranch, but her efforts are blocked at every turn. After a shocking glimpse into her husband's past, Kathryn uncovers a hidden truth. What she wouldn't give to turn back time and be able to love her husband for the man that he was, not for the man she always wanted him to be.
Larson Jennings has spent his entire life running from a broken past, unable to trust, reluctant to try again. One fateful night, his life takes an unexpected twist, and soon he is forced to make a choice. Whatever he chooses, his decision may cost him his life."

I found myself not able to put this book down because I had to find out how it was going to end and I was rooting for the characters the entire time. To me, that’s the sign of a great book. I felt like I was literally forced by the author to keep reading... but I didn’t mind.

I cannot stress enough how much I recommend this book, a great and fast read. And even better news... there are 2 more in the series when you finish this one!

50 Shades of "Nay"

Unless you have been living under a rock you have heard of the book 50 Shades of Grey. When I first heard about the book, all I was hearing was that it was so good and all these girls I knew were hooked on it. I love reading and love book suggestions and many times I will try out the trends. Well I really hadn't heard anything about the content of the book, just that people loved it. So I did what I usually do and went to Amazon.com to read reviews. Boy was I surprised after what I read, just after reading the short synopsis I was horrified. Mainly because I couldn't believe the types of women who were reading this and loving it. Many reviews praised it and its fabulous character "Mr. Grey" but there were also many comments stating it to be "porn", "erotica" and many other filthy words. I still have not read this book, let alone put it in my hands. I have my many reasons for not doing so but in this link below this woman explains it very well and I stand with her!

A pastor at my church and a man that I truly admire said in a recent message that it makes him weep to think about how this book is specifically designed to target women in the way porn targets men. He was crying as he said this as he is expecting a daughter in less than a week and knows that sadly this is the way the world is going.

Stand strong! Don't read this book and subject yourself to the thoughts it puts in your head and if you are dating or married think about how unfair that is to your spouse. I always try to ask myself "is this going to bring glory to God?" In this case I think it is the exact opposite.
